Community Transport

If regular buses don’t work for you – whether it’s because of mobility, age, or you simply don’t have a car – this is the service that gets Hightae folk where they need to go, door to door.

Annandale Community Transport Services (ACTS)

ACTS has been running since 1999 and covers the whole of Annandale and Eskdale – that includes us here in Hightae. They use minibuses and smaller community cars (including a wheelchair-accessible electric one) to pick you up right from your front door.

People use them for hospital appointments, shopping trips into Lockerbie or Dumfries, social visits, or just a day out. It’s especially popular with older residents and anyone who finds public transport a bit of a faff. They also do group minibus hires if your club or organisation needs transport for an outing.

How to book

Just give them a call on 01576 203053. The office at 72-74 High Street in Lockerbie is normally open Monday to Friday, roughly 9am to 3pm. You can also drop them an email at admin@actsbus.org.uk.

Book in advance so they can plan the route and make sure someone’s there to help you on and off if needed. It’s pre-booked only – they don’t run a fixed timetable for the community service.

Their website (actsbus.org.uk) is currently down, but their Facebook page is the best place to see the latest news, photos of the vehicles and any updates: facebook.com/ACTSbus.

Other options in the area

Dumfries & Galloway Council still runs its own Dial-a-Bus service in some parts of the region. Your local Community Council usually has the most up-to-date information on routes and how to book that one.

All the details above come straight from ACTS themselves and recent local reports – always best to phone and confirm times and availability before you need them.
