Here’s a straightforward guide to the main utilities serving Hightae, Heck, Greenhill and Smallholm. We’ve put together the key details for each one below.
Broadband
Broadband in the Royal Four Towns runs over the Openreach network from the Lockerbie exchange. Most homes already have superfast broadband, and Full Fibre is steadily being rolled out street by street through the R100 programme.
Electricity
SP Energy Networks looks after the local electricity network. You can choose any supplier you like and there are often decent savings to be made by shopping around on different tariffs.
Gas
There is no mains natural gas in Hightae, Heck, Greenhill or Smallholm. All homes and businesses use LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) delivered by tanker straight to an on-site storage tank.
Oil
Many homes in Hightae, Heck, Greenhill and Smallholm use heating oil (kerosene) for central heating and hot water. Oil is delivered by tanker straight to your on-site tank. The popular local Hightae Top-up Scheme makes regular deliveries easy.
Water & Sewerage
Drinking water comes from Scottish Water’s Black Esk zone and sewerage charges are added to your Council Tax bill. Water quality in the area is very good and the vast majority of homes are on the public mains.
