Roads & Highways in Hightae
The roads around Hightae, Heck, Greenhill and Smallholm are looked after by Dumfries & Galloway Council. Here’s the straightforward stuff you need – how to report potholes, faulty street lights, blocked drains, winter gritting and what happens after you make a report.
Report a Pothole or Road Damage
The council now uses one simple online system for potholes, damaged pavements, cycle paths and car parks. It’s called FixMyStreet Pro and it’s the quickest way to get it sorted.
Report a pothole or road problem →
You can pin the exact spot on a map, add photos if you want, and track what’s happening with your report. The system also shows you any other issues already logged nearby.
See current reported issues around Hightae
Before you report something new, it’s worth checking what’s already been logged in the village and surrounding roads. This map is centred right on Hightae so you can see everything at a glance.

The map updates in real time and shows potholes, street light faults, drainage problems and anything else that’s already been reported near us.
Report a Street Light Fault
Street lights out or flickering? Use the same FixMyStreet system or ring the council directly.
- Online: FixMyStreet Pro – select “Street Lighting”
- Phone: 030 33 33 3000 (8am–5pm Monday to Friday)
Help them fix it faster by noting the nearest house number or landmark and what’s wrong (completely out, flashing, etc.).
Blocked Drains & Flooding on Roads
Standing water, blocked gullies or drains causing issues? Report it through the same FixMyStreet system – just choose the drainage/flooding option.
How the Council Prioritises Repairs
Not every pothole gets fixed the same day. They assess safety risk and fix the most dangerous ones first.
| Priority | Risk Level | Target Repair Time |
|---|---|---|
| Priority 1 | Critical – immediate danger | Within 24 hours |
| Priority 2 | High safety risk | Within 5 working days |
| Priority 3 | Medium risk | Up to 60 working days |
| Priority 4 | Low risk | Monitored – no fixed date |
| Priority 5 | No risk | No action needed |
They aim to inspect most reports within 20 working days if you give a clear location. Lower-priority jobs are still logged and checked during routine inspections.
Winter Gritting & Road Safety
In winter the council grits priority roads to keep things moving. You can track the gritters live.
The map shows the last 12 hours of gritter and snow-plough movements. It’s handy if you’re heading out on the roads around Hightae or towards Lockerbie/Annan.
